The title “무아(無我) / MUAH”, which translates from the original Korean to “without self”, references the Buddhist concept of anattā. This doctrine emphasizes the impermanence of all things, suggesting that even the concept of “I” is an unanchored and drifting notion.  This ancient dharmic concept takes on new significance in the contemporary age where the advent of artificial intelligence has increasingly raised the question of artistic authorship and the locus of our selfhood.

In a world where people live online through selfies archived in the cloud, can we truly see ourselves without the mediation of a digital reflection? Thus, MUAH uses the mirrored world of the infinity room to splice the image of the self with digitally generated art — a provocative merger compounded by its reflection into the infinite.

MUAH is a site-specific installation created for Art Club and is the US debut of the work of Nerdy Artist Union.
